THE ORIGINS OF INDONESIAN EFL TEACHERS’ IDEOLOGICAL BELIEFS ABOUT ENGLISH AND ELT

The last three decades or so have seen a proliferation of studies into second language (L2) teachers’ cognition, encompassing their thinking, knowledge, and belief. However, are lacking the origins (or sources) L2 beliefs especially ideological beliefs. This paper reports subset findings from study investigating classroom practices secondary school EFL teachers in Indonesia. Aiming to reveal about English ELT held by perceived such beliefs, draws on data obtained total 16 interviews. Data analysis revealed that reflect several categories ideologies prevalent setting. These were originate factors as schoolteacher’s talk English, practice, undergraduate education, graduate fellow teachers, colleagues an teacher forum, textbooks used for teaching. concludes with implications education programs suggestions future research
